For more than 50 years Tchibo has stood for coffee passion and enjoyment. The company was founded in 1949; it originated as an idea of businessmen Max Herz and Carl Tchilling-Hiryan to ship coffee by mail—a business concept that revolutionised the coffee market.
With a turnover of about 4.002 million euros (2005), Hamburg’s historical company is one of the largest consumer goods and retail companies in Germany operating on an international level. The magazine “Capital” distinguished Tchibo in February 2005 as Germany’s third-best employer. More than 12,000 employees, 300 of them apprentices, work for the company. As the world’s fifth-largest coffee producer, Tchibo is the market leader for roasted coffee in Germany, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary.
